Liberty County, TX — Authorities responded to a two-car accident on State Highway 105, about 2 miles east of FM2518 in Cleveland, that occurred on Saturday, September 26, around 8:30PM.

Investigators reported that the driver of a pickup truck attempted to pass an 18-wheeler that was entering the eastbound lane and collided head-on into another pickup truck travelling westbound. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of the pickup truck travelling westbound, a 33-year old hispanic male from Houston, and a left rear passenger both died at the scene. The right rear passenger, also a 33-year old hispanic male, was transported to Memorial Hermann via Lifeflight in critical condition.

Fortunately, a 15-year old boy who was seated in the front passenger seat of the westbound pickup truck, did not sustain any injuries.

The driver of the eastbound pickup, a 56-year-old male from Saratoga, was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger of that pickup, a 57-year-old female, was also transported to Memorial Hermann via Lifeflight in critical condition.

HAZMAT conducted a scene sweep to clean up hundreds of nails and screws obstructing the road.

Truck accidents are so common in the state of Texas that many people sadly see these fatal collisions as inevitable, but nothing could be further from the truth. While some accidents do happen, most truck collisions are preventable. In fact, 90% of road accidents in Harris County alone are caused by driver error.
