Attorney
Alma (Reyes) Tavares is a personal injury trial attorney. She represents individuals and families that are hurt by the negligent acts of others, including large companies. Some of the types of cases she handles involve commercial motor vehicle crashes, defective products, dangerous premises, and workplace injuries.
“I am drawn to helping people that need it most. I have a lot of compassion for people who are hurting. I really want to help them.”
She began her legal career as a personal injury paralegal in 1998. While working as a paralegal for ten years, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of St. Thomas, (Summa Cum Laude), a master’s degree in Humanities from the University of Houston-Clear Lake (Top Honors), and a juris doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law (Summa Cum Laude). In law school she competed and placed in arbitration, oral argument, and moot court competitions. She was the president of the Hispanic Law Students Association and publicist of the Board of Advocates. She was awarded the American Jurisprudence award for achieving the highest grade and rank in her class in several subjects. She also interned for Judge Kenneth Hoyt of the Southern District of Texas and for the Immigration Legal Clinic.
After earning her law degree, Alma began her professional career at the firm of Vela & Reed, PLLC, in downtown Houston representing injured clients. Since 2009, Alma has represented people who are in need of someone with knowledge, experience, and compassion to help them navigate the complicated legal system.
“I practice personal injury law because I really love it and believe in the people we represent. What makes it even better is working with an amazing trial team of attorneys and paralegals. We are like family.”
Alma, a native Houstonian, describes herself as a family oriented and curious person who enjoys learning, traveling, challenging herself, and living a healthy lifestyle all while spending as much time as possible with her pretty extraordinary family.
