Settlement Manager
Williams Hart & Boundas, LLP (WHB, LLP) is seeking an experienced Settlement Manager for our Firm. The Settlement Manager will report to the Firm Controller and be responsible for all settlement activities and client distributions. The Settlement Manager is responsible for the integrity of the Firm’s IOLTA accounts, client disbursements, maintaining the firm’s letter of representation and fee agreements. This position works closely with the Partners, Attorneys, and Paralegals, to support our client needs. Therefore, we are looking for someone that is detail-oriented, a great listener, task-driven, client-focused, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role you must be self-motivated, initiative driven and work well with a collaborative team. The candidate should also be tech savvy (be proficient in using Microsoft365 – Word, Excel, and Access, Oracle – NetSuite, & SAP – Concur) to analyze financial information, prepare closing statements, client expense reporting, and other ad hoc reports as required for the Partners, Senior Lawyer Counsel, and outside counsel. Candidates should reside in the Greater Houston area as this opportunity is on-site working in our Houston office alongside awesome co-workers!
Settlement Manager’s Job Duties:
- Process settlements
- Review settlements processed by trust department staff
- Complete trust-related projects upon request by attorneys/partners
- Manage trust department staff
- Manage IOLTA accounts, including monitoring for and allocating incoming funds
- Allocate and send out asbestos settlement funds held in trust for Epiq/Garretson
- Medicare liens
- Prepare expense reports and preliminary closing statements for dockets upon request
- Disburse attorney fees/expenses recovered from settlements to operating account biweekly or upon request
- Research, allocate, and send funds to various states’ unclaimed property programs
- Audit (and allocate if applicable) legacy trust data, including defendant overage funds
- Speak to clients after supervisor escalation
- Monthly Reconciliation of operating account
Requirements/Qualifications:
- 7+ years of multi-entity/high volume experience due to reconciliation of our mass tort cases and settlements
- 2+ years of supervisory experience and management skills
- Self-starter with strong work ethic and superior attention for detail
- Ability to multitask with little to no supervision
- Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills
- Maintaining confidentiality is highly important
- Must be computer proficient in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Oracle, SAP and general case management systems accustomed to litigation work
- Must be deadline driven and efficient with time management for the Accounting Department to meet the needs of the Firm
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university (or equivalent 4+ year degree)
- Settlement experience with a Mass Tort environment a plus

- Commensurate with experience
