Crosby, TX (December 07, 2020) – One pedestrian was killed and another hospitalized with critical injuries after they were hit by a car on Friday, December 4th in Crosby.
According to deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place at about 6:50 p.m. in the 700 block of Krenek Road. Upon their arrival, deputies found two injured pedestrians, a 20-year-old man, and a 28-year-old woman. The vehicle that struck them had fled the scene.
Both pedestrians were transported via Life Flight to the Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. The woman died from her injuries a short while after they arrived. The man is still hospitalized in critical condition.
After receiving reports regarding a suspicious vehicle, deputies tracked down a black Lexus about a mile from the crash site. They were able to determine that it showed signs of damage that were consistent with striking a pedestrian. The hair of one of the victims was also found on the vehicle.
Officers talked to the driver, an 87-year-old man, who seemed to be confused. He was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Pedestrian Fatalities in Crosby
Pedestrian-involved accidents take place every day in the United States. In 2016, with a total of 678 pedestrians killed, auto-pedestrian collisions represented almost one-fifth of all crash fatalities in the state of Texas, signifying an increase of 21.5% from the year before.
It is imperative that drivers remain vigilant when it comes to noticing pedestrians in the area. Most of these accidents happen because drivers are simply not watching for pedestrians and do not notice them crossing the road, stepping into a crosswalk, or walking on the side of the road.
Accidents involving pedestrians produce more fatalities and more injured victims than any other kind of car accident. Since pedestrians are completely vulnerable, they typically sustain injuries that are more critical than any vehicle occupant. This is why it is important to solicit reputable legal counsel if you for a family member suffered an injury or was killed due to the carelessness of a driver.
