Houston, TX (September 16, 2021) – An 8-year-old girl was hospitalized after an SUV hit and injured her on Thursday morning, September 16, in northern Harris County.
The incident occurred just before 7:45 a.m. in the 14300 block of Ella Boulevard, located between Kuykendahl Road and Rushworth Drive. Authorities said the driver stayed at the scene and told them that she did not see the child.
EMS transported the child to the hospital in critical condition. Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said that, as of Thursday afternoon, the girl is stable but is being treated for a possible brain bleed.
According to a witness, the driver was speeding and talking on her cellphone when she hit the young child, who was crossing the road.
Authorities in Houston continue to investigate the details of the crash and have not released further information.
We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.
Pedestrian Accidents in Houston

Pedestrian-involved accidents take place every day in the United States. In 2016, with a total of 678 pedestrians killed, auto-pedestrian collisions represented almost one-fifth of all crash fatalities in the state of Texas, signifying an increase of 21.5% from the year before.
It is imperative that drivers remain vigilant when it comes to noticing pedestrians in the area. Most of these accidents happen because drivers are simply not watching for pedestrians and do not notice them crossing the road, stepping into a crosswalk, or walking on the side of the road.
Accidents involving pedestrians produce more fatalities and more injured victims than any other kind of car accident. Since pedestrians are completely vulnerable, they typically sustain injuries that are more critical than any vehicle occupant. This is why it is important to solicit reputable legal counsel if you for a family member suffered an injury or was killed due to the carelessness of a driver.
