Houston, TX - Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Traffic Crash on Katy Fwy between Dairy Ashford Rd & Kirkwood Rd

Houston, TX (October 24, 2021) – Authorities in Houston are currently investigating a fatal auto accident that involved a pedestrian. The incident happened around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 24, according to reports.

A woman was hit by a vehicle and killed in the inbound lanes on the I-10 Katy Freeway between Dairy Ashford Road and Kirkwood Road in western Houston. All main lanes of the freeway were closed while Houston police and paramedics occupied the roadway.

Various sources reported that a white Toyota Sedan with three female passengers was parked on the shoulder of the freeway when the driver exited the vehicle to check on a passenger who was sick. Authorities stated that a white coupe driven by an adult male exited the main lanes of the highway and struck the female for currently unknown reasons.

She was pronounced deceased on-site by medical professionals who responded to the scene of the incident. Her name has not been released at this time. The two other women present in the vehicle at the time were not injured.

The male driver who struck the woman suffered minor injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, authorities said. The man will face intoxication manslaughter charges. Nothing further has been reported concerning the circumstances of the incident at this time.

We would like to offer our sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased victim.

Information recently reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that nearly 129,000 people in the United States required emergency medical care in one recent year due to injuries they suffered in pedestrian-involved traffic accidents. An additional 5,376 pedestrians lost their lives because of their injuries. Pedestrians, the most vulnerable travelers on the roadway at any given time, are almost twice as likely to die during a car crash than the occupant of a vehicle. If they do manage to survive being struck by a car, their recovery period is usually extremely long and difficult.
