Houston, TX (August 4, 2021) – Police say that a driver accused of causing a deadly head-on crash in southeast Houston on Tuesday evening, August 3, is facing criminal charges.

Officers with the Houston Police Department say that a 30-year-old female passenger in the suspect’s vehicle died in the crash, which happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Winkler Drive.

Police say 31-year-old Joshua Yante was driving a silver Nissan Versa when he crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a family’s pickup truck head-on. A couple and their 6-month-old baby girl were traveling inside.

All three were transported to an area medical center via ambulance but are expected to recover.

The driver of the silver car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, as was his female passenger. The woman later died of her injuries.

Police have since released a statement indicating that Yante has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Our thoughts are with everyone involved. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased at this time.
