Houston, TX - Two Airlifted After 3-Motorcycle Collision on SH 321 near FM 1008, Tarkington

Houston, TX (September 14, 2021) – Two people were airlifted to a trauma center in Houston on the night of Saturday, September 11 after their involvement in a motorcycle collision. The incident was reported to have occurred on State Highway 321 near FM 1008 between Tarkington and Dayton.

According to information provided by the head of the Liberty County Department of Public Safety Office, Sgt. Rob Willoughby, a large group of motorcycles were heading south along State Highway 321 when the crash occurred just before 10:00 p.m.

Three bikes who were a part of the group became involved in the crash. The throng of motorcycles was headed back from a benefit when one of them– described as a trike, struck two other motorcycles. The driver and the passenger on the trike at the time suffered serious injuries, Willoughby stated.

A 62-year-old man from Dayton was driving the trike at the time, carrying one passenger, a 59-year-old female, also from Dayton. They were both transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Two other drivers, identified as Earl Thrasher III, 36, and River Goodwin, of Houston, did not sustain serious injuries in the collision, according to reports. Goodwin was arrested for outstanding traffic warrants.

Authorities in Houston continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident. No further information has been reported to the public at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full and speedy recovery.

Motorcyclists are always at a higher risk of serious injury or death when involved in traffic accidents. This is obviously due to the fact that they are basically totally unprotected while traveling, as opposed to other people in larger vehicles. Motorcyclists often suffer severe or life-threatening injuries when they collide with passenger vehicles, vans, trucks, or other vehicles. Being involved and injured in a motorcycle crash can be a devastating, lengthy, and difficult experience.

Even the most cautious motorcycle riders are at an increased risk of an accident when compared to the occupant of a car or truck. According to statistics recently printed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycle riders are five times as likely to sustain serious injuries than the occupants of the other people involved.
