Joe Melugin

Joe Melugin ATTORNEY

Joe Melugin is an experienced attorney, bringing more than fifteen years of experience to the firm. His skill in personal injury law makes him an exciting addition to Williams Hart & Boundas, LLP. He primarily focuses his practice on cases involving catastrophic injuries, product defects, oilfield injuries, and maritime injuries, as well as federal civil rights law.

While Joe has significant experience across a variety of practice areas, he is particularly passionate about representing those who have been injured while working, and he is more than willing to stand up against large corporations to ensure that injured workers and their families receive the compensation they are owed when things go wrong. He knows that when people come to him seeking representation, the last thing they need is to be overwhelmed with the complexities of the legal world, so he tailors his work to the specific needs of his clients in order to make the process as smooth for them as possible.

Joe has accumulated a notable case record over the years, successfully negotiating numerous sizable settlements for his clients in a variety of personal injury cases. In addition to his passion for advocating for workers, he has also represented victims of sexual assault in cases against their abusers and the organizations that profited off of their abuse. He takes great fulfillment in helping those who have been victimized reclaim their agency as they seek justice. He finds similar fulfilment in his work representing those whose civil rights have been violated by the police. In one such case, he negotiated a settlement in excess of nine hundred thousand dollars between his client and the City of Houston after his client was tasered and shot in his hospital room by police officers. At the time, this was one of the largest settlements in Houston’s recent history.

Joe is licensed to practice in Texas, Missouri, Illinois, California, and Colorado, as well as in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of Texas, Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, Northern District of Illinois, and Northern and Central Districts of California. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Logistics/Transportation (Supply Chain Management). In 2004, Joe returned to school, attending the University of Houston Law Center, where he received the Judge Shearn Smith Scholarship Award, graduating with his law degree in 2007. While in law school, he was admitted to the Order of the Barristers.

In addition to his casework, Joe is an active member of the Houston Bar Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association. Outside of his legal work, he enjoys spending time with wife and children and is active in his community. He serves as a volunteer board member for a non-profit foundation that supports his local public elementary school and serves as a volunteer for a local swim club.
