Samantha Smith

Attorney

“I didn’t know if I would like working in asbestos litigation, but to my surprise, I enjoyed the work with the clients and the people I came to know from both the plaintiff and defense sides of the docket, the judges, and the court personnel. I’ve been working with some of the same people for over 23 years.”

I will forever be grateful that I chose the right firm for my Roundup case. From the first phone call until the verdict, I have always felt so comfortable and respected by everyone I worked with from the firm. I was represented by people who truly care about their clients and their needs and feelings. I wish there was an option to give them 1000 stars on here! They are now much more than my attorneys... I am blessed to call them my friends!

Biography

Attorney Samantha Smith has worked on the Williams Hart & Boundas asbestos team since 2007, helping victims diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases, including mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other related cancers. Samantha’s own family, her grandfather, two uncles, her aunt, and even her great uncle, all worked in industrial jobs just like the majority of asbestos-affected clients.

Samantha graduated from the South Texas College of Law in 1998. She is licensed in Texas and Oklahoma and is a member of numerous professional affiliations. She has received recognition for her work, including Texas Bar Foundation Fellow and Super Lawyers Rising Stars honors.

At home, Samantha loves to be outside, whether going for a walk, hanging out by the pool, gardening, traveling, sailing, or scuba-diving. A longtime supporter of local animal rescues, she enjoys time with her own rescue pups and helping pets in need.

One particular case that left an impact on me was that of August Liberda, a dedicated electrician in Point Comfort, Texas. He poured his heart and soul into his profession. Throughout the years, he was exposed to deadly asbestos fibers on a daily basis, causing him to inhale asbestos dust. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma. He was a very active, healthy man and would have had many more years on this Earth if he hadn’t been given such a horrible diagnosis.

By the time we worked on Mr. Liberda’s case, we had worked on several cases against Alcoa, fighting through discovery disputes and intensive motion practice. But we learned more, had more discovery disputes, and fought more motions in court. We took depositions of several co-workers, experts, and Alcoa’s corporate representative. We were able to reach a substantial settlement for Mr. Liberda’s family.

Throughout the discovery and mediation process of the case, I got to know his daughter and son. We made a connection talking about dogs, when not discussing the case. His daughter runs a dog rescue organization, and after my own dog passed, I reached out to her and adopted a bonded pair of rescued dogs from her organization. I’ve kept in contact with her, and it has been over 10 years since her father passed away.
